Shri Narendra Modi,
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,
I write to you as one of the many Indians proud of what you have done for India in this short period of time. You have been brutally honest and taken decisions which may sound radical to a few but have benefited the majority of Indians who look up to you for leading India on a path of growth and success.
I wish you continued success in your future endeavours.
The talent pool that the medical community of our country has produced from the time of Sushruta to this day has given humane service and made India proud over the centuries.
Our medical services be it in Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy or Allopathy have been acknowledged worldwide.
Our doctors hold pride of place internationally and that only speaks of the volumes of growth opportunities we have had in India.
India and Indian doctors are responsible for the growth of medical tourism and it can only grow further, because India offers comparable world class quality of medical care at fraction of the cost of other economies of the world.
Some of the firsts in certain areas of medicine have all been credited to doctors from India. We form an integral part of path breaking research in the field of medicine.
Sir try as hard as we may, we cannot save all our patients. We cannot help them all. As is the case in the rest of the world. Doctors after all are not GOD!!!
We never differentiate on the basis of religion, caste or income groups on who we treat. Some of the most charitable work in medicine is done on Indian soil. We get blamed for overcharging, for complications which are all part and parcel of medical practice. We rarely ever react strongly to it passing it off as an occupational hazard.
One can grow both personally and professionally if a sense of belief and faith in our work is assured. All doctors have taken a Hippocratic oath to serve and as he himself had said ” Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is love for humanity.”
How many professions in the world can you count on where an individual will go for hours without eating, spend sleepless nights and struggle only to save the life of one he did not know until a few minutes ago. We forsake precious time with our families, our loved ones only to save someone else ‘s love without ever making a fuss over it.
Sir the premise of any citizen is that he feels safe under any regime. That he or she feels protected at all times and is allowed to live peacefully. That is what every head of state owes to his people.
Over the years the faith in the medical system has eroded. Breaking news headlines quite often not true spread rumours and anti social elements use public sentiments to make merry.
It is no longer news to hear doctors helplessly getting beaten up, have their faces blackened only because some people thought their relative had no right to die even if nothing less than a miracle could have saved that person or that individual was already brought dead to the hospital. Hospitals meant for saving lives have been burnt down by irate mobs depriving thousands of sick people a chance at saving their own lives.
How are we suppose to do our jobs effectively if people we treat don’t trust us?
How are suppose to save lives if we fear for our very own?
How are we a nation on the path of growth if such barbaric acts are allowed to go unnoticed?
How come nothing other than lip service is done to these goons, despite us having laws that prohibit these acts.
How are these people allowed to portray an image of India which is not correct.
Let a few rotten apples not spoil the image of India at large.
Sir the medical community has been a feather in India’s cap. You are our leader and we need you to protect us, to prevent the brain drain, to allow us to prosper and grow to heights without fear.
We believe we can trust you as our prime minister. We need you to act as you always do, fearlessly and effectively as you best do.
The medical community shall be forever indebted.
A fellow Indian , proud of being an Indian.
